Buddha Teaching on the Three Characters for Success: Businessman vs Monk
Numbered Discourse 3.19 A Businessman
Sometime ago in old India, Buddha said this:
Monks, a businessman who has three characters is unable to acquire more wealth or to increase the wealth they’ve already acquired.
What are the three characters?
It’s when a businessman doesn’t carefully focus on their business activity in the morning, at midday, and in the afternoon. A businessman who has these three characters is unable to acquire more wealth or to increase the wealth they’ve already acquired.
In the same way, a monk who has three characters is unable to acquire more skillful characters or to increase the skillful characters they’ve already acquired.
